The Apps Family at Spruce Pine Lodge | Durham Family Photographer

I had so much fun capturing family photos for the Apps family this summer! I met Connie at the TAPS Halloween Costume Party event last year, and I remember her sweet family stood out to me because of their AWESOME and creative costume of “Where’s Waldo?” I remember we hit it off right away and I was so excited when she contacted me for a photo shoot! I truly 100% believe that the relationship you have with your photographer makes a huge difference in how your photos turn out. I remember before and during the shoot, she told me how she trusted my judgment and creative expertise—I seriously am so touched and honored anytime someone tells me that! I truly take it to heart!

For this family shoot, we took photos at the Spruce Pine Lodge in Bahama because that’s where Connie and Lucas got married! I thought that was so sweet and special :) I remember the day of our session was also a bit drizzly, but the rain didn’t stop us at all! The Apps family truly have such a joyful and positive spirit, which made their session fly by!

One of the memorable parts of the shoot was seeing how much their son loved being tossed in the air and playing on the swings. His smile and laughter were so endearing! I especially loved seeing him learning to walk, and how both parents were helping him. I love capturing walking photos because it is a way of capturing the love, guidance, and encouragement from parent to child—it can be so hard to capture, but so precious when it is documented. We ended the shoot by taking photos in front of the lodge, and the funny thing was their son wiggled his way out of their laps and had an impressive army crawl! It was so cute and funny, and he was so FAST! :)

A Special Family Reunion | Lake Gaston Family Photographer

I had the honor of capturing family photos for Bruce and Peggy this summer…and it was EXTRA special because it was Bruce and Peggy’s 50th wedding anniversary!! Their goal for this shoot was to get at least one photo of their WHOLE family. This includes their 3 kids with their spouses, and 8 grandkids. Talk about a beautiful legacy! :)

We did the portrait session on the dock at their beautiful home at Lake Gaston. The lake view was GORGEOUS and created a meaningful backdrop to their photos! I learned they picked this home so that it would be a fun place for their grandchildren when they visited, which I thought was so sweet! We started the shoot by capturing a photo of the whole family, then proceeded with photos of the grandkids and photos of each family with Bruce and Peggy. We also documented a portrait of just Bruce and Peggy together, and the joy on their faces were priceless!

I truly enjoyed meeting the whole family, and was so encouraged to see the legacy of their marriage and love! Enjoy scrolling through the photos, and happy anniversary to Bruce and Peggy! May you enjoy many more years together! :)

The Baldwin Family Reunion | Hillsborough Family Photographer

I had the best time taking photos for the wonderful Baldwin family! Ellen contacted me in the spring and was looking for someone to photograph their upcoming family reunion + summer birthday celebration. This was the first time they were doing a summer family reunion (normally they do it in the winter), and we had a blast! We had a large group, which included 2 grandparents, 4 children and spouses, 7 grandchildren, 2 pets, and friends of the family! We took a variety of photos of each family unit and photos of the whole clan, as well as fun portraits of Ellen with her husband and four sons, all the grandchildren, all the women, and even the pets! It was truly a fun and sweet time, and I absolutely LOVED all of their smiles!

A fun fact that I learned was that Ellen has four sons, and two of them are TWINS! Can you guess which ones by looking at the photos below? ;) One of her twin sons also had twins (a boy and girl!). Another memorable part of the shoot was taking some candid photos of Toby, the miniature pig! He was the pet of one of the families and was SO cute. One of the grand-daughters told me that he was only 3 months old, but already knew a couple of tricks! He was able to spin in a circle and jump on command! Of course, we had a corn on the cob nearby (his favorite food) to help motivate him :) Lastly, when it was time for dinner they rang the dinner bell, which I thought was totally awesome! You don’t see that often anymore!

Photographing family reunions are truly special because I understand how hard it is to get so many people together in one place. I encourage everyone to consider hiring a photographer at their next family reunion because these moments are so special!
