A Relaxing Maternity Session at Home | Durham Maternity Photographer

I had the wonderful privilege of taking maternity and family photos for Lisa and Josh this fall at their beautiful home in Durham! They seriously have some of the best laughs and smiles, and were so welcoming! We started off by taking photos on their front porch, and I loved how they all were so natural and relaxed in front of the camera including their dog, Pablo! We also took some photos of their son’s favorite green chair, and the lime green color gave such a fun pop of color to their photos!

We also took time to play inside, and it was so cute to see how much their son loved to play with planes, trucks, and trains :) I was impressed that some of the toys were from Josh’s childhood because they were kept in excellent condition! I also remember they had a really cool elephant theme going on for their home decor, and I absolutely loved the elephant wall decal that was in their play room! In addition, seeing them play and interact together was so sweet. Capturing the joy and laughter that comes from being together is truly precious!

A random, fun fact from the shoot was that I found out Lisa went to the same school as me for undergrad!! It was SO funny because I was telling them about my background growing up in Seattle. We are both Husky alums from the University of Washington and went there around the same time, and it’s not everyday that you meet someone who went there! What a small world!

Welcoming Baby Boy 3 | Durham Newborn Photographer

Documenting every season of life is so precious because the moments of today are so fleeting! I had the honor of capturing newborn photos for the de Jong family, and it truly was a pleasure to work with them again. They welcomed their third baby boy at the end of summer, and it was so fun capturing them as a family of five!

One of my favorite parts of the shoot was capturing the interactions of the older two boys with their baby brother. As seen with the first photo, when I asked them all to look at their baby brother, they did look at him, but also poked him! It’s these candid moments that I find truly depicts real life! However, we did capture some sweet moments later on and it was wonderful to see them interacting with their baby brother :)

We ended our session in the boys’ room, and it was so sweet to see them read together! I also loved it when we had the oldest brother hold his youngest brother, and we captured a group hug with everyone. Together is truly the best place to be! Congrats again to the de Jong family!

Sunset Maternity Session at Dix Park | Raleigh Maternity Photographer

I had a wonderful time taking maternity photos for the Geary family last month! They are truly one of the most upbeat and cheerful families I’ve met, and they were all SO natural in front of the camera (including their cute little maltipoo!). We took photos during the golden hour (my favorite time of day!), and the light was absolutely amazing!! The sun came out from behind the clouds a couple of times, and it created such a beautiful, warm backlight to the photos. I especially loved the backlight when capturing Sarah’s solo maternity portraits and the photos where Sarah and Matthew were swinging their daughter (she was so happy!). The sunlight behind them added wonderful dimension and depth to the photo, and just looked so pretty!

What I loved most of all from this photo shoot was capturing the “togetherness” of their family before baby #2 arrives. Maternity sessions are truly a family session. Maternity sessions are more than just capturing your baby belly; it’s more about capturing who you are as a family in this moment in time. The dynamic of your family will change and documenting the reality of this moment before everything changes is priceless. Trust me, you will never regret capturing the different seasons of life with your family!

Enjoy scrolling through my favorite photos below! There were many sweet and fun moments during this incredible session, and I know baby #2 is going to be so loved! :)
