Sunset Maternity Session at Dix Park | Raleigh Maternity Photographer

I had a wonderful time taking maternity photos for the Geary family last month! They are truly one of the most upbeat and cheerful families I’ve met, and they were all SO natural in front of the camera (including their cute little maltipoo!). We took photos during the golden hour (my favorite time of day!), and the light was absolutely amazing!! The sun came out from behind the clouds a couple of times, and it created such a beautiful, warm backlight to the photos. I especially loved the backlight when capturing Sarah’s solo maternity portraits and the photos where Sarah and Matthew were swinging their daughter (she was so happy!). The sunlight behind them added wonderful dimension and depth to the photo, and just looked so pretty!

What I loved most of all from this photo shoot was capturing the “togetherness” of their family before baby #2 arrives. Maternity sessions are truly a family session. Maternity sessions are more than just capturing your baby belly; it’s more about capturing who you are as a family in this moment in time. The dynamic of your family will change and documenting the reality of this moment before everything changes is priceless. Trust me, you will never regret capturing the different seasons of life with your family!

Enjoy scrolling through my favorite photos below! There were many sweet and fun moments during this incredible session, and I know baby #2 is going to be so loved! :)

Gorgeous Maternity Session at UNC | Chapel Hill Maternity Photographer

I am SO excited to blog about this gorgeous maternity session with Melody and Chris! They met as students at UNC and have been married for 10 years, and desired to take photos at their alma mater. I LOVED that they chose a location that was meaningful to them because it shows a part of their family story! :) We also included their adorable Italian Greyhound, Tebow, in the shoot (yes, he’s named after Tim Tebow!) and he did such a great job during the session!

We started off the shoot by taking photos by the Old Well, one of the most iconic spots at UNC. We then took photos in front of the South Building and then at McCorkle Place. Both spots made absolutely stunning backdrops, and I personally loved how the brick added an academic and historical look to their photos! Another fun spot we took photos at was at Davie Bench, also known as the “Kissing Bench.” The legend is that if a couple kisses on that bench, they’ll get married! The funny thing was that Melody and Chris haven’t kissed on that bench before, but we thought it would still be fun to do it since they are married! :)

We then ended our shoot on Franklin Street, and took photos in front of the Carolina Coffee Shop (a place where they would frequently go as students!) and also took a couple of photos of them walking on Franklin. It was truly a meaningful and sweet way to end the session! Enjoy some of my favorite photos below, and I can’t wait to meet their baby girl!!

A Sweet Maternity Session | Durham Newborn Photographer

I had so much fun taking maternity portraits for Mitch and Kirah last month at the American Tobacco Campus! They have been together for 8 years and married for almost 5 years. Mitch describes himself as the data/computers guys and Kirah as the artistic/social one, and together they love playing board games. I was so excited when they told me they’d like to incorporate a board game during our shoot because I truly believe sessions should reflect who you are as a family!

We started off the session with them playing the board game called, Santorini, and I loved seeing the way they interacted with each other. Being able to have fun with your spouse is important, and I can tell these two truly enjoy spending time with each other! We then took portraits of them together, and it was so sweet to see how they looked at each other and how they giggled together. Their joy and excitement for their baby can definitely be felt! We also incorporated an ADORABLE blue baby sweater that Kirah knitted—it seriously looked like it came out of a magazine! :)

We ended the shoot with a couple of more photos of the both of them, and I can’t express how natural and relaxed they were in front of the camera. Their laughs were effortless and Kirah was absolutely glowing! It was a pleasure to get to know the two of them and I can’t wait for them to enter the next season of life together…Baby Daniels is going to be so loved!

Enjoy some of my favorite photos from the maternity session below, and stay tuned for Baby Daniels arrival! :)
